Torchwood sister series

Russell T. Davies -- he who revamped the Doctor Who franchise and then spawned Torchwood -- has come across the pond to work on what I'm calling a TW sister series for STARZ called Torchwood: Miracle Day. There's a little about it here and here. And more specific info about casting and such here.

Two degrees of separation

One of my bestest friends, L, knows the beautiful woman who played the Israeli Mossad officer protecting Ziva's father on last night's (and next week's) episode of NCIS. It was kind of groovy watching her and feeling a bit of a connection to her through my friend.

Now if I could just get L to get her to hook me up with Michael Weatherly. Or get me Pauley Perrette's autograph . . . and Mark Harmon, and Cote de Pablo, and Sean Murray, and David McCallum. ::grin::

Funny thing . . .

. . . how your brain takes things you've seen/heard/read and condenses them down into a wacky dream. The fuel:

1. We watched "Van Helsing" night before last
2. Yesterday evening, I saw a commercial for "NCIS"
3. Before going to bed last night, I read around 50 pages of The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians book #1)

The dream:

Gibbs and Tony walk into autopsy to get a report from Ducky. Who should be standing behind Ducky but Frankenstein in a suit and tie of Tony's style, threatening them all. Tony goes in for the fight with Gibbs right behind him when there's a noise behind Gibbs. He turns, looks right into the eyes of Medusa, and turns to stone.

I told you it was a wacky dream.

TV critic (spoilers)

In case you didn't read the title -- SPOILERS!

The return of "EUReKA" on Tuesday: WHOO HOO! It's back! I don't know if Allison getting back together with Stark is the best decision for her, but I've gotten to the point where I don't like the idea of her with Carter, either.

Last night's "Doctor Who" season finale: Wow. I laughed. I cried. It was great. Donna to Jack: "You can hug me now. No, really, you can hug me now." ::giggles:: Our sentiments exactly, dear!

Last night's "Stargate Atlantis": Not one of their better episodes. I mean, what was the point, really? They hopped dimensions a couple of times, John and Ronin got to shoot a couple of bad guys, Rodney figured out how to put the dimension drive in reverse, and they got home. Big deal. I guess I'm so used to every episode having something to do with other episodes that this one just kinda threw me. If it was a set-up for a new idea, it was pretty weak. But we did get to see a bit of Zalenka, so that was nice.

Crazy fangirl squee

OK, so I already knew I love CBS because every show I watch is there except for Doctor Who, Stargate Atlantis, EUReKA, and Dirty Jobs. But tonight, as I pulled up their show menu to see if Friday's Moonlight has been posted (I recorded it while I watched DW, but my tape broke this morning after watching CSI), I saw a section off to the side labeled TV Classics. When what should my wandering eyes perceive but . . .

MACGYVER!

I clicked the link, and lo and behold! Choirs of angels began to sing as I saw . . .

Full episodes. All of them. Every eppy, every season.

Don't believe me? Check it out.

IT'S HERE IT'S HERE IT'S HERE!!!

Babylon 5 Crew

FINALLY!!! My very own copy of "Babylon 5" season one has finally arrived!

::happy Dawn dance::

Ever since I read that Entertainment Weekly top 25 list of the best science fiction TV series and movies of the last 25 years -- and was shocked/extremely irritated that neither B5 nor Stargate SG-1 made it on -- I have had a hankering to revisit Sinclair and Sheridan and Ivanova and Garibaldi and Delenn and the rest.

::contented sigh:: I've watched three eps today.

Exchanges that make me giggle

From tonight's "Stargate Atlantis"

Ronin: Don't worry. They're primitive.

McKay: Define primitive.

Ronin: Clubs and arrows.

McKay: Hey! Arrows can hurt!

Ronin: Only if you're stupid enough to get hit in the ass by one.

EUReKA Season Finale -- SPOILER ALERT

I was robbed! I read at the start of this season of EUReKA that the Carter-Allison-Stark situation would definitely be resolved. It wasn't. And I don't like the way they're trying to make us think it will go.

I'll be so upset if Henry is permanently gone.

Does anyone know how long I'll have to wait for next season? I swear if it's next Summer again, I will scream loud enough to deafen the entire parish.

Random thoughts swirling in a sleepy mind

How many people can actually get away with not being present for the conduction of the majority of their dissertation experiments due to a numb bum?

I'm still trying to wrap my mind around the news sprung on me by one friend. A sudden change of things for me, though not for her, but it's taking me time to adjust. I worry that she will take my lack of exuberance as disapproval. It is not -- it is just a new way of thinking about her and the life she has chosen. My lack of familiarity with that new life contributes.

What am I going to do when I go back to New Orleans and no longer have the Sleuth Channel to give me daily doses of Thomas Magnum?

Totem adventures. First was being two feet away from an Indian rhinoceros, which is my favorite of the five species. Then it was getting to feed and touch a black rhinoceros, an indescribable experience.

I need oxygen at night because I drop below 85% saturation when I'm sleeping. This is news I don't know how to feel about, especially coming a little over a month after losing an old friend with my same MD type who had more respiratory problems than I was aware of. A friend who was only a year younger than me. By "ordinary," able-bodied standards, I am still a young woman, but by spinal muscular atrophy standards, I am an old lady. There's a niggling thought, one that comes at night when I can't sleep or when dark thoughts are driven by spiking hormones, that this is how the end begins. I have started looking at books with lung-strengthening information, and in the meantime I periodically stop during the day to take deep, chest-expanding breaths. If you don't use it, you lose it -- and I have things to do.

"Pan's Labyrinth," though excellently done, should never ever be watched when one is hormonally vulnerable. It's freaking Shakespeare in Spanish.

When already depressed by my menstrual cycle and "Pan's Labyrinth," maybe finishing Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire was a bad idea. Oh well, what's done is done.

I'm going back to NOLA in two weeks. Where has the time GONE???

My cousin getting ready to welcome his third child. Another wee one for me to spoil.

Hopefully rereading Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix will inspire my Muse to actually help me write on Nay's story. Or reading Anita's or Jonikka's story posts. I really MISS writing creatively.

I've resigned myself to the fact that there are people I just will not be able to see this trip home despite being here longer. It makes me sad (two in particular), but you just can't do anything about heart catheterizations or flu or boss stress or parents with broken hips and gout or greedy oil companies charging stupid prices for gas.

A&W root beer is so damn good.

I'm going to finally see "Order of the Phoenix" and "1408" -- both this weekend. Still haven't seen "Pirates" III -- dammit.

Narcotics play a number on your bowels. Good thing there are dried apricots in the world.

I sometimes could use Dumbledore's Pensieve, you know?

Jericho -- Casus Belli

Casus Belli = justification for acts of war (according to Wiki).

I don't know who TWOP is, but s/he so succinctly and beautifully sums up all my feelings about last night's ep of Jericho (including Eric's lameness) that I will simply refer you to this article.

Long live Heather! Show me the body, then I want Abby or Greg-o to run the DNA to prove she really is dead.

My pairing of the week -- Jake and Mary. Only until they find Heather, though.

And the snerk scene of the ep:

Stanley (watching idiot boyfriend signing to his sister): When did he learn sign language?
Mimi (with a you're-cute-when-you're-dense look): He's sleeping with a deaf girl.

I freakin' LOVE THIS SHOW!

::sleepy happy dance::

I got a package in the mail today from Anita containing the last two eps of "Torchwood," the first new season of "Doctor Who," and some eps of "Primeval." Not only do I bless her for sharing with me (::sloppy kisses all over Nichan's face::), but I also bless her supplier of British TV shows whoever s/he is. Couple those with the complete sets of NCIS season 1 and Numb3rs season 2 I bought earlier this week, and I have a lot of video watching to do.

Seeing as how it turned off chilly again last night, I won't feel any guilt about staying inside.

However, I first must read through grant requirements so I can start writing on those.
